White House Issues Proclamation Suspending Certain Nonimmigrant Temporary Worker Visas through End of 2020

The White House issued a new proclamation on Monday, June 22, suspending certain temporary worker visas through the end of 2020, and can be extended. The suspension, effective June 24, applies to H-1B, H-2B, J-1, and L-1 visas.

The Proclamation states that “American workers compete against foreign nationals for jobs” and that “under ordinary circumstances, properly administered temporary worker programs can benefit the economy.” However, because of the pandemic and high level of unemployment, the nonimmigrant visa programs “pose an unusual threat to the employment of American workers.” To review the proclamation, visit:
